Vietnam’s export of fruits and vegetables to China is expected to reach $5 billion this year, accounting for 70% of the country’s total fruit and vegetable export volume in the year, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit).

China remains the biggest export market of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. In 2023, export revenue of fruits and vegetable to this market reached $3.63 billion, equivalent to nearly 65% of Vietnam's total fruits and vegetable export in the year.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of Vinafruit, said Vietnam has many opportunities and potential to boost export of fruits and vegetables to China.

With a population of 1.4 billion, China has huge demand for fruits and vegetables, particularly tropical fruit varieties that Vietnam has a production advantage with large quantities and good quality, he said at a recent conference held in Hanoi to discuss the export of fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market via official channels.

Vietnam has officially exported 11 types of fruits to this market, such as durian, jackfruit, dragon fruit, banana, mango, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, mangosteen, and passion fruit, along with sweet potatoes and black ginseng.

Experts at the conference noted that Vietnam boasts the potential to become one of the most important fruit exporting countries in the world with a total cultivation area spanning about 1.2 million ha and an annual output of over 14 million tons.
