Fresh Vietnamese coconut exports to US skyrocket
Statistics indicate that the US spent US$47.35 million on importing about 44,910 tonnes of fresh coconuts throughout the reviewed period, up 11.5% in volume and 18.8% in value.
Accordingly, the US imported this item from 17 countries and territories around the world. The main suppliers of coconut to the market include Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, and Costa Rica.
In fact, the US spent a total of US$3.94 million on importing 3,860 tonnes of coconut from Vietnam during the reviewed period. Currently, the market shares of Vietnamese coconuts in the US’ total import volume rose from 0.76% last year to reach 8.59% this year.
Earlier in August last year, fresh Vietnamese coconuts officially made inroads into the US due to meeting this market’s strict requirements, thereby opening up bright prospects ahead for the Vietnamese coconut industry.
Currently, Vietnam ranks among the group of the 10 largest coconut producers in the world, meaning there is ample room ahead for coconut exports to foreign markets in the coming time. This comes after fresh Vietnamese coconuts also recently entered the Chinese market.
