Singapore seeks to import meat, eggs from Vietnam

“After working with many production and livestock units, we realized the great potential and feasibility in importing meat and eggs from Vietnam to Singapore," Kader said.

“However, the support from state agencies, especially in managing and assessing the quality [of products], is needed to accelerate the importation."

Cao Xuan Thang, commercial counselor and director of the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, said the Singapore Food Agency’s delegation surveyed and worked with many Vietnamese enterprises to promote pork, chicken, and egg imports to the island country.

Succeeding in exporting products to Singapore will help Vietnam access other markets, Thang said.

Singapore is a bridge to connect to other markets in the region and the world. If Vietnam can tap this market, it will find it easier to ship its meat and eggs to other countries.

However, Thang noted that Singapore is a selective market, so Vietnam must put in effort to capitalize on opportunities there.

A representative of Ba Huan JSC said the company had been exporting eggs to various markets, such as Hong Kong and Cambodia.

The exportation of products to Singapore, if successful, will be a turning-point to improve Vietnam's production capacity and prestige.

Vietnam was the largest exporter of rice and the fifth-largest supplier of seafood to Singapore in the first quarter of this year.
