Vietnam Allocates $95 Million for Key Transport Projects in Ben Tre Province

Despite limited public investment resources, the Ministry of Transport has prioritized the allocation of VND2,425 billion (approximately $95 million) for two crucial transportation projects in the southern province of Ben Tre.

These projects include the upgrade and expansion of National Highway 57 and the construction of the Rach Mieu 2 bridge.

In response to a proposal by the Ben Tre Provincial National Assembly Delegation, the Ministry of Transport highlighted the need to prioritize dynamic national projects such as the North-South Expressway and the completion of delayed projects.

However, recognizing the importance of infrastructure development in Ben Tre province, the Ministry has dedicated funding to both the National Highway 57 upgrade and the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project, which will connect Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.

Due to resource constraints, the Ministry is currently unable to allocate capital for the upgrade of other sections of National Highway 57 and National Highways 57B and 57C within Ben Tre province.

Acknowledging the need for further investment in Ben Tre's road infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport will direct relevant agencies to review and consider the inclusion of additional projects in the medium-term public investment portfolio for 2026-2030.

The Ministry has also directed the Vietnam Road Administration to increase maintenance efforts on existing routes to ensure safe and convenient travel conditions.

The Ministry says it has allocated funds for regular and periodic maintenance of National Highways 57 and 57B.

Specific projects include repairs costing 33.2 billion VND ($1.3 million USD) on National Highway 57, with additional projects scheduled for 2023 and 2024. Repairs to National Highway 57B have also been undertaken, with further projects planned.

The Ministry of Transport recognizes the important role of National Highway 57 in the socioeconomic development and national security of the Mekong Delta.

The Rach Mieu 2 bridge project, which began in March 2022, aims to improve connectivity between provinces in the region and is expected to be completed within approximately four years.
